The stitches dissolve after 2-3 weeks, however if you had surgery without stitches, the recovery time is much shorter, and the swelling should be reduced considerably after 1 week.

Pain Factor: Patients undergo general anesthesia, and are prescribed medications afterwards to reduce the pain and swelling. Swelling and bruising is to be expected, but will change from patient to patient. To avoid further bruising, the patient should eliminate physical exertion during the recovery process. The patient will have difficulty talking or smiling for at least 10 days.

Potential Side Effects/Risks associated with Cheek Implant Surgery: Potential risks and side effects may include excessive bleeding caused by strenuous activity, facial nerve injury, including weakness or paralysis, movement of the cheek implant, infection, undesirable scarring, and allergic reaction to the anesthesia. Smoking is discouraged several weeks prior to and several weeks after the chin implant operation, as it may interfere with the actual surgery itself and cause complications in the healing process afterwards.
