LASIK is the most commonly performed refractive surgery procedure. The name LASIK is short for "Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis." It can correct near-sightedness and far-sightedness, with noticeable results even one day after the surgery.

LASIK procedure: A thin flap is cut by the surgeon on the cornea using a microkeratome. The surgeon then folds the flap back and uses an excimer laser to remove small bits of tissue to reshape the cornea.
