Description of Brow Lift Procedure: The first step of the brow-lift procedure is a detailed consultation with your surgeon, who will explain and discuss with you which procedure will most suit your situation and your appearance. Currently, there are two different procedures to choose from. The traditional forehead or brow lift entails a procedure that places incisions either at the hairline, behind the hairline, and in some cases above the brow line or in the mid-forehead, a technique that usually works for men who already have an exaggerated crease in the middle of the forehead. You and your surgeon will select the most desirable and appropriate technique for your particular case. The newest approach, the endoscopic brow lift, uses a microscopic camera, which is inserted about half an inch to an inch behind the hairline, providing the surgeon with a defined view on a large screen of the muscles and tissues beneath the skin. Another pencil-like instrument is then inserted to gently lift the skin and move the muscles if necessary. This procedure may require more surgery time, yet it is less invasive and temporary scalp numbness may be reduced to a bare minimum. This procedure is outpatient, which means that the patient can return home the same day.Good Candidates for Brow Lift Surgery: Anyone between the ages of 35-70.

Average Duration of Brow Lift Surgery: 1-2 hours.

Estimated Recovery Time: Recovery time is approximately 7-10 days, however strenuous activity, such as lifting heavy objects, should be avoided until several weeks have passed.

I can return to work within: If your job requires strenuous activity, your doctor will request that you rest until you have completely recovered. Otherwise, you should be able to return to work within 3-4 days, if your appearance is not a weighing factor.

I should see the complete result of my brow lift surgery within: It may be several weeks to several months until you see the complete results of your surgery, as the time it takes for swelling, bruising and incision lines to heal will vary from patient to patient. After about a week, these marks may be camouflaged with make-up until they have completely faded.

Pain Factor: Patients usually have a choice between a general anesthesia, which would require them to stay in the hospital a few hours longer, and intravenous sedation. Most patients may choose a combination of local anesthesia with sedatives since a brow lift is less complex than other cosmetic operations. Your doctor will also write you a prescription to reduce the pain during your recovery time, and an over-the-counter pain killer will be recommended to you as well.

Potential Side Effects/Risks: Elevated hairline, undesirable scarring, changes in skin sensation or dryness and itchiness, infection, facial nerve injury, including weakness or paralysis, allergic reaction to the anesthesia.
