The United States veterans have an office in the lobby. CIMA Hospital in San Jose is the only hospital in Central America that is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs. There is a special international insurance claims department with a staff to assist Americans.Foreigners represent more than 25% of the patients at CIMA Hospital and the percentage is growing.  "Health tourism" represents about 15% of all visits to Costa Rica. Dr. Oscar Suarez

Dr. Oscar Suarez is dedicated to excellence and committed to providing personalized care. By establishing a strong doctor-patient relationship with open channels of communication, Dr. Suarez is able to fully appreciate a patient's goals and motivations critical to tailoring the appropriate treatment plan. Dr. Suarez received his undergraduate degree of general medicine from The University of Costa Rica, thereafter doing 1 year of social service as the Costa Rican laws requires. Immediately he studied General Surgery also in this university; during his last year in training, he fulfill the position of Chief of Residents and Interns, and later worked as General Surgeon before continuing his studies. His Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialization was done in the Jalisco Institute of Plastic Surgery in Mexico, under the direct supervision of world renowned Plastic Surgeon Dr. José Guerrero-Santos, and graduated with one of the best grades of his generation. At present time, he has his practice in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in Hospital CIMA San Jose. Dr. Suarez belongs to the Colegio de Medicos y Cirujanos de Costa Rica, and he is member of the Asociación de Cirugía Plástica, Reconstructiva y Estetica de Costa Rica, The Ibero Latin-American Federation of Plastic Surgery (FILAC) and the International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRASS). The Dr. continues to update his skills and knowledge by attending to at least 3 seminars a year mainly in the USA specialized in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He also shares his knowledge and abilities with his colleges by periodical seminars done in Hospital San Jose Cima. He is happily married with Cristina Escalante and they have procreated two beautiful girls, Maria Fernanda and Maria Jose. They enjoy their family life in the tranquil mountains of Heredia, surrounded by the greens and flowers of this area.

About San Jose, Costa Rica

San José is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica, and is at the heart of Gran Area Metropolitana or GAM, located in the Central Valley. San José is the seat of national government, the focal point of political and economic activity, and the major transportation hub of this Central American nation.

Founded in 1738, San José is one of the youngest capital cities in Latin America by year of conception, though it was not named capital until 1823. Nowadays it's a modern city with bustling commerce, brisk expressions of art and architecture, and spurred by the country's improved tourism industry, it is also a significant destination and stopover for foreign visitors.

Officially, the city's current population is of 346,799, this population corresponds to the San José Canton, the first of the twenty administrative units in San José Province, though the metropolitan area stretches beyond the canton limits and comprises a third of the country's population. Besides, San José exerts a strong influence on a wider range because of its proximity to minor cities (Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago) and the country's demographic assemblage in the Central Valley.

The city lies at a mean elevation of 1,161 m above sea level, and enjoys a stable climate throughout the year, with an average temperature of 23C (73F) and annual precipitation of 1800 mm, more than 90% of it falling in the rainy season from May to November.

The University of Costa Rica was established in 1843, at that time with the name of University of Santo Tomás. San José also serves as the headquarters of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The city is served by Juan Santamaría International Airport, 23 km west of downtown, in the city of Alajuela.
