Buttock Lift

The objective of the buttock lift (butt lift) procedure is to improve the contour of the buttocks by removing excess skin and lifting the buttocks to a higher position, giving it a more youthful and aesthetic appearance.

A Good Candidate for Buttock Lift

Healthy non-smoking individuals between the ages of 35-65 who are self-conscious or unhappy with the appearance of their buttock area due to age, weight loss, medication or loose muscle are good candidates for this surgery.

Depending on the patient’s desired end results, buttock implants may be chosen instead of the lift to increase volume, or liposuction may be chosen. Patients who undergo a buttock lift have often undergone other procedures, such as the tummy tuck or thigh lift, however some patients have specifically requested this procedure alone.

Buttock Lift Procedure

The first step is a detailed consultation with your surgeon, who will determine the best method that will achieve your desired end results. There are two locations for incisions. If the sagging in the buttock is minimal, an incision may be made in the natal cleft, the center of the buttocks.

If there is a large amount of excess skin sagging in the buttock area, incisions will be made just above the buttock, and below the lower back. Plastic surgeons are usually very careful about where to place incision lines.

The incision is made in a place that can be hidden. Excess skin is removed and if there is fat to be removed, it will be extracted via liposuction. The incisions are closed up with dissolvable or removable stitches, in which case you may have to return to your hospital or clinic for a follow-up visit to have your stitches removed.

This procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis.
