- Crete Fertility Centre

Crete Fertility Centre was established 15 years ago and it is now one of the most modern private IVF clinics in Greece. Crete is the largest Greek island and a popular holiday destination. Its tranquility allows patients to cope better with the anxiety that often accompanies the whole process.
Crete Fertility Centres' lab and medical equipment are the latest in assisted reproductive technology and on par with European and American standards of hygiene. Treatments at Crete Fertility are also more affordable than most European IVF clinics.
Dr. Mattheos Fraidakis was born in Crete and studied at the University of Rome’s Faculty of Medicine. He is now a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (E.S.H.R.E), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (A.S.R.M) and the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (E.S.G.E.).
Crete Fertility Centre has a success rates of around 42-48% and as a result, we are optimistic about your future. We feel confident that we will be able to help many couples have the child they have always longed for.
FERTILITY LEGISLATION IN GREECE:
The Greek legal framework for assisted reproduction services is one of the most progressive in the world. This means that Greece and the Crete Fertility Centre are an ideal destination for couples seeking treatments not available in their own country.
Recent Greek legislation assists couples to to conceive using egg or sperm donation up until the age of 50 for women and without age limit for men. This is in contrast to many other European countries. In addition, there is favorable legislation for couples considering host surrogacy as a treatment option.
FERTILITY LEGISLATION IN EU COUNTRIES:
Fertility regulations vary from country to country in the EU.
In the UK, legislation permits single women and same-sex couples parenthood and access to ART technology in both public and private sectors. This has led to an increase in demand for these services.
Meanwhile, Italy legislated against single and gay parenthood in 2004 and is also very restrictive regarding un-married couples. A comprehensive series of medical examinations that prove the couple is infertile are often required. In addition, embryo freezing, surrogacy, sperm donation and egg donation are forbidden by law.
FERTILITY LEGISLATION IN NORTH AMERICA:
In the United States of America, medical insurance companies and state law demand that couples follow a lengthy bureaucratic process before an agreement to undertake treatment can be reached. Individual State laws also differ. For example, in California, state law does not require insurance companies to include fertility treatments in their contracts. In Connecticut, however, women over 40 are not covered by insurance companies.
Our 15 years of experience has shown that many couples who are motivated by their strong wish to have a baby are hindered by restrictive legislation in their own country. As a result of this, they seek treatment in Third World countries thus exposing themselves to avoidable risks that are consequences of inconsistency and clarity in standards of health care and hygiene. Lack of a robust and transparent ART legal framework has been known to complicate the experience many couples have had abroad in unfamiliar cultures and societies.
ABOUT INFERTILITY
The percentage of couples troubled by infertility is high and unfortunately rising. Almost 1 out of 5 couples are experiencing infertility due to various reasons. In Europe, 40% of infertility is attributed to the male partner, 40% to the female partner and 20% to both.

About Crete, Greece
Tourism
Crete is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece. Fifteen percent of all arrivals in Greece come through the city of Heraklion (port and airport), while charter journeys to Heraklion last year made up 20% of all charter flights in Greece. Overall, more than two million tourists visited Crete last year, and this increase in tourism is reflected on the number of hotel beds, rising by 53% in the period between 1986 to 1991, when the rest of Greece saw increases of only 25%. Today, the island's tourism infrastructure caters to all tastes, including a very wide range of accommodation; the island's facilities take in large luxury hotels with their complete facilities, swimming pools, sports and recreation, smaller family-owned apartments, camping facilities and others. Visitors reach the island via two international airports in Heraklion and Chania, or by boat to the main ports of Heraklion, Chania, Rethimno, and Agios Nikolaos.
Expatriate EU communities
Crete's mild climate is attracting growing interest from Northern Europeans to have a holiday home or residence on the island. EU citizens have the right to freely buy property and reside with little formality.[11] A growing number of real estate companies cater to mainly British expatriates, followed by German, Dutch, Scandinavian and other European nationalities wishing to own a home in Crete.
The British expatriates are concentrated in the western prefectures of Chania and Rethymno and to a lesser extent in Heraklion and Lasithi. Some 40% of Britons in late 2006 said they were planning to live outside the United Kingdom or retire abroad due to socio-economic changes in the country. One in ten Britons do so already.
